Currently
involved in a $ 930,000, federally project to increase awareness towards
organ donation in Arab – American / Chaldean Community, in affiliation
with Michigan Transplantation Society and University of Michigan-Dearborn.
Participated in
the Homecoming – Dearborn’s biggest community event in August 2001 and
August 2002, and disseminated information about organ and tissue donation.
Produced
education material, “Casey Saves a Life” for children in grades 1
through 3; “Let’s Learn About Organ & Tissue Donation” for 4th
through 6th grades and “About Organ and Tissue Donation” for high
school students.
The IAOD’s
web site was made multilingual. Its contents are now available in English,
Spanish, and French and by the year’s end Arabic will also be the next
language. With almost 6000, hits a month the web site is the most visited
site on organ donation among the 10,750 in the world.
Created
database for organ donors and recipients.
On May 16th,
2002 another grant request was submitted to support our work in the Asian
– American communities.
IAOD
participated in Arab International Festival on June 14th – 16th
at Warren Avenue, Dearborn and displayed & distributed material
developed in English and Arabic towards promotion of Organ and Tissue
Donation.
