HELP

THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR

ORGAN DONATION SAVE A LIFE!!!

The International Association for Organ Donation, family and friends are working against time to save the life of Helen Hai-Chu Lau.  Mrs. Lau has dedicated her life to her career as an electrical engineering, being a supportive wife, and mother of a 22-year-old daughter who is currently pursuing an electrical engineering and fine arts degree at the University of Michigan, following in her mother’s footsteps.

Mrs. Lau is currently fighting against time to win her battle against Leukemia.  Like her more than 30,000 patients are diagnosed with leukemia, aplastic anemia and other life-threatening diseases.  The best chance for most victims to beat this deadly disease is to receive a marrow or blood stem cell transplant.  Transplants are most successful when the donor is a family member; however 70% are unable to find a match within their family.  The next best solution is to find an unrelated matched person with healthy stem cells most likely from someone from the same ethnic or racial background.  Anyone between the ages of 18-60 years of age and in good health is able to voluntarily become a donor.

Stem cells are immature cells that can develop into red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.  Marrow transplants require matching certain inherited tissue traits of the donor and the patient.  Some characteristics of marrow types are unique to people of specific ancestry, although it is possible to receive a transplant from someone of another ethnic background; the most likely match is from the same ethnic group.

The International Association for Organ Donation was established in 1999 to assist members in the ethnic communities of SE Michigan to fight the same type of battle Mrs. Lau and her family is currently facing.  Help us to help her win her fight against this deadly disease.
