PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Sixty Second
PSA:
“Are you a registered organ donor?
Fifty years ago, the first kidney transplant took place. Since then, medical science has evolved so dramatically that many individuals who receive an organ transplant live full, productive lives.
TODAY, over 89,000 people are waiting for life-saving organ transplants. A new patient joins the list every 14 minutes. Every 96 minutes a person dies while waiting. Tens of thousands of individuals are awaiting tissue transplants alone.
In Michigan, almost 2,400 residents are waiting. In many cases, the wait is too long.
Registered organ donors are in short supply. Because people don’t register to donate, others, who could have a second chance at life, don’t get one.
Registering as an organ donor is simple. Just visit the International Association for Organ Donation’s website at
www.iaod.org. Your information will be immediately forwarded to the Michigan Organ and Tissue Donor registry. It only takes a minute. Transplantation saves lives, but only if YOU help.
For more information, visit www.iaod.org
today.”
