CONTRIBUTE NOW! |
The
International Association for Organ
Donation needs your support now. We are
on our way to our goal of bringing in
100 new contributors this year and
raising $500,000 out of individual
contributions but there is still much to
be done. With more than 92,000 people
waiting on the national transplant
waitlist, 3,019 of which live in the
state of Michigan we need your
overwhelming generosity to help us in
our efforts to educate the public about
organ, tissue and bone marrow donation. |

in Plymouth, Michigan for the 3rd Annual “Drive
for Life” Golf Outing. Bring your colleagues,
partners, business associates, friends, or

drinks and networking.
This year’s outing is sure to be a tremendous
success featuring a brand new course, the Fox
Classic, which is an 18 hole, PGA accredited
course featuring recent design enhancements such
as enlarged teeing surfaces and improved
bunkers. Beyond the course, we will be featuring
post-golf cocktail hours this year, as well as,
lunch at the turn and beverage carts at holes 3,
6, and 12. There will also be a silent auction,
course contests, raffles, door prizes, and gift
bags!
The “Drive for Life” Golf Outing helps
the IAOD continue to educate and create public
awareness for organ donation with all proceeds
from the event helping to support these
initiatives. Enjoy a first class course and
beautiful clubhouse while supporting this
important cause.

IAOD COMMUNITY OUTREACH |
|
|
IAOD participates in Congresswoman Carolyn
Cheeks-Kilpatrick’s Organ Donation Townhall
On March 25th
the IAOD participated in Congresswoman Carolyn
Cheeks-Kilpatrick’s Townhall on Organ Donation.
Members of the community heard from an expert
panel of transplant surgeons, organ donation
educators and community leaders on the
importance of organ and tissue donation. Guests
were able to ask questions and present their
experiences with donation and transplantation.
A health fair took place after the presentation
and allowed attendees to receive information
from the various health agencies present. Many
guests registered to become organ donors.
IAOD Health Fair hosted
at Compuware Headquarters Downtown Detroit
On
April 20th the IAOD hosted a health fair at
Compuware as a part of an area wide donor drive
for National Organ Donation Awareness Month.
Compuware guests and employees were able to meet
with representatives from the IAOD, Gift of Life
MOTTEP and the National Kidney Foundation to
discuss health issues related to organ failure.
Close to 100 people registered on the spot while
many more registered online or at the other
locations. WDIV helped to promote the event and
week long drive. Several hundred people
registered.
Bone Marrow Drive for Alexander Wiser
In
partnership with Children’s Hospital of
Michigan, the National Marrow Donor Program and
the American Red Cross on April 26, 2007 the
IAOD hosted a Bone Marrow Drive for 8 month old
Alexander Wiser at St. Anne’s Church in Detroit.
Alexander was adopted from Guatemala by a local
couple who soon discovered he has juvenile
leukemia. He is currently in chemotherapy
several times a week and his best chance of
survival is a bone marrow transplant. Members of
the Hispanic Community came out to be tested as
potential matches for baby Alexander. Hooper of
the Detroit Pistons came to entertain the
children as parents were tested. To find out
when you can come and be tested for baby
Alexander please call Tanji Davis at (313)
745-2235.

2006 7th Annual
Recognition Banquet in Review |
|

We
would like to offer our sincere gratitude to
everyone who supported this year’s Recognition
Banquet on April 27th at the Detroit Marriott.
Guests enjoyed a night of food, drinks, music,
socializing, bidding on silent auction items,
and most importantly, experiencing the work of
The International Association for Organ
Donation.
We were moved by Alice Karoub’s story of courage
and strength and the overwhelming triumphs of
Courtney Cooke and her family. We
were introduced to Niko Ahee and the Edmund T.
Ahee Memorial Fund, a program designed to aid
those families on the waitlist. Kim Adams,
Health Reporter for WDIV Channel 4, was the
mistress of ceremonies and delivered a wonderful
program, while our keynote speaker, Dr. Francis
Delmonico, impressed us all as he detailed the
latest developments in organ donation.
Special thanks to our Board of Trustees for
their commitment and dedication, all of our
sponsors for their tremendous support, our
amazing speakers, each of the organ donors,
recipients, and waitlistees that joined us for
this special evening, the Detroit Marriott for
the incredible hospitality, Sharon Gioia for her
overwhelming support, our magnificent volunteers
and staff, and to all of the attendees for their
extraordinary and continued support.
Again, we thank everyone
for their generosity and look forward to next
year’s gala event to take place on Friday, April
20th at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn.

Guzinski or Michelle Mirzoian at 313-745-2235.
