Research
Research is a fundamental piece of the
IAOD’s efforts. We believe that our educational presentations and outreach events are successful efforts in raising the public’s level of understanding, but that the broadcasting of our research data is a crucial element in furthering organ, tissue, and marrow donation awareness.
Currently, the IAOD is involved in a research project working with the Arab-American/Chaldean population in Southeast Michigan. Data collected will measure the effectiveness of using ethnicity specific messages and messengers in increasing organ, tissue, and marrow donation awareness, registration, and family consent among Arab and Chaldean communities. This project has the potential to serve as a model for possible replication in Arab communities throughout the United States, therefore, the
IAOD intends to share its findings once completed.
The IAOD is also beginning an awareness campaign among Asian Pacific Americans in Southeast Michigan. The effects of a targeted, culturally sensitive and community-based approach to organ and tissue donor education and registration will be measured and disseminated for potential replication throughout the country.
We believe that it is crucial to form collaborative relationships that will, in the end, help save thousands of lives. With over 89,000 individuals waiting for an organ or tissue transplant in the United States, we make every effort to increase the number of registered donors.
